This blog will explain what the Telstra Embargo period is and how Exigo Tech can help you avoid its impact.
Please keep in mind that this only applies to carriers – Telstra partners like us will still be available for all the support and services.
What is Telstra Embargo?
The embargo is an annual event where Telecom carriers across Australia do not process any new fibre, internet plans, broadband cabling, NBN and copper requests. Furthermore, there may also be restrictions on work such as relocations, upgrades, network changes, and reconfigurations. This Embargo originated from the need to provide respite during the holiday season.
We will outline how each type of work is affected and what you should keep in mind during the 2022 – 2023 holiday period below.
What are the stages of the Telstra Embargo?
The Embargo period is divided into two stages as below.
Telstra Soft Embargo (Restricted Work) | Expect longer than usual time to complete network and fixed line services as limited resources will be available. So, the completion will take place after the embargo period. Services for mobiles will run as usual. | 30 Nov 2022 to 14 Dec 2022 |
Telstra Embargo (No Work) | Due to the complete freeze at Telstra, no new network services or fixed lines will be processed. | 14 Dec 2022 to 9 Jan 2023 inclusive |
What services are impacted during the Embargo period?
As Telstra operations are on hold in the embargo period, new networks and fixed line services are affected. You might face some delays in new internet services and voice services as well.
Despite the many variables in the telecom industry, the industry is unanimous in its support for the Embargo. Their straightforward nature allows customers to prepare well in advance for dire situations or changes in telecom needs.
What impact will Telstra Embargo have on my business?
There will be minimal impact on your business if you plan in advance. If you are planning to move your fixed-line services or deploy any new infrastructure during the holiday season, you must act now. It is important to get any related orders in as soon as possible.
New Orders | Orders involving any new network components may not be completed until the embargo period has expired, and it may even take weeks for completion to occur after the Telstra Embargo period due to backlogs. |
Faults | The restoration of faults is not affected by the network embargo period and can be handled by service providers as normal except for public holidays. |
System Updates | As the work is carried out with a skeleton staff during embargo period, priority is given to the customers with additions, moves, and changes as part of their contracts. |
