Microsoft (MS) Teams app, sits at the centre of the collaboration suite for most Australian businesses. Microsoft has confirmed that it saw an unprecedented increase in the number of Teams users. They added 95 million users alone in 2020. And, with the pandemic situation becoming graver, forcing people to return to their home office setup, it is expected that the numbers will shoot up again. When Microsoft Teams was rolled out in 2017, the Seattle based tech giant marketed it as a chat-based workspace. But over the years, the businesses’ demands have changed and so has Microsoft’s vision for the product.
Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella, once quoted that they are building MS Teams app as an organising layer for all the ways businesses function. His vision is to extend Microsoft Teams’ capabilities over apps and services while making it a hub of communication and collaboration. He envisions Microsoft Teams as a tool that enables businesses to build social capital and allow people to collaborate outside and inside of the organisation.
To make vision of their CEO successful and revolutionise business communications, Microsoft is releasing features almost every month for MS Teams app. Let’s not go too far back and just talk about the additions that were made in the month of July and August.
MS Teams New Features Rolled Out in July 2021
As per a data breach study by IBM, 61% of organisations say that data theft is the greatest threat to their reputation costing them millions.
- Lock a Meeting
The presenters now have the flexibility to avoid distractions due to late joiners. The presenters can lock a meeting and the participant who was late won’t be able to enter the meeting. The Lock meeting option can be accessed from the more options menu in the participant pane and is available for desktop app only.
- Slide Translate in PowerPoint Live
The feature of MS Teams app allows the users to understand the contents of a presentation more quickly and easily when it is being shared during a Teams meeting. The private setting in Power Point Live enables the users to view the slides in their own language. Presently, the slide contents can be translated in 19 languages. The support for more languages will be coming soon.
- End User Real-time Telemetry During Meetings
A call health panel was introduced that enables the end users to figure out any issue related to audio, video, network or screen they had whilst attending the call. The information in call health panel is updated every 15 minutes for superior and engaging end user experience.
- Paging on Video Gallery
When a user is engaged in a call where many people are sharing their videos in the gallery mode, this feature allows users to navigate across the Window and view the participants of their preference.
- Support for Human Interface Devices for Azure Virtual Desktop
The end users are now allowed to plug in their external devices such as mouse or a headphone while accessing MS Teams app from a virtual desktop.
